Kim Orwin : Head Gardener

One of Kim’s earliest memories is helping her nan harvest tomatoes from the greenhouse, however, a career as a gardener was not clear cut from childhood. Kim spent the first ten years of her working life in a variety of community-based public sector roles before she took a career break to study Food Marketing at Sheffield Hallam University and that led to a keen interest in how food is produced locally.

She completed a master’s degree at the University of Sheffield in the same year that she began managing North Wingfield Community Garden, and since then she has grown vegetables in historic walled gardens around Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire whilst completing her Royal Horticultural Society qualifications.

Kim joined the Gardens Team at Fischer’s Baslow Hall in August 2023 and has recently been promoted to Head Gardener. Her favourite part of the garden will always be the vegetable beds but she is excited to develop and display our collection of Pelargoniums this summer.

As well, as managing Baslow Hall’s gardens, she has two allotments which she looks after with the help of her dad and her two sausage dogs, George and Hilda.
