JOHN COOPER : GENERAL MANAGER AND SOMMELIER
Coming from Sheffield, John Cooper could have played cricket for Yorkshire. Fortunately for Fischer’s he opted for a career in hospitality, joining The Rutland Hotel on Glossop Road in his home city as an apprentice in 1988.
Working his way through the hotel departments, John rose through the ranks, becoming Restaurant Manager before moving onto Mosborough Hall, a popular wedding venue.
However, the siren sound of the sea began calling; John joined the cruise liner The Hebridean Princess, sailing around the Scottish Isles, becoming Junior Purser. He also met his lovely wife Sarah, a native of Oban, who fell for his rugged Northern charm!
John started at Fischer’s in the summer of 2001 as Restaurant Manager, and was appointed General Manager in 2010.
John is also responsible for Fischer’s superb wine list. He was always interested in wine, and on joining Fischer’s was guided and tutored by John Wynne, our dedicated wine buyer. When John Wynne sadly passed away from cancer, John took over the enjoyable task of sourcing our wines, and has a steady stream of trusted wine merchants beating a path to his door.
John’s favourite wine is a good, full-bodied red, especially rioja.
He is married, as you know, to the lovely Sarah, they have 3 gorgeous girls and lots of feline and aquatic dependents!
