Keen to support the local community, Fischer’s owners Max and Susan Fischer decided to host a charity lunch for Macmillan Cancer Support, donating all the proceeds which totalled £1,333.28.

After a champagne reception, Macmillan’s Derbyshire fundraising manager, Tracy Townend, spoke about the services and support they provide to a growing number of people diagnosed daily and living with cancer. These include a range of medical professionals in addition to Macmillan nurses, family support workers, benefits advisers, information centres and specialists, a mobile information unit, a vast amount of free, specialist cancer information, help line and grants for people struggling with the extra costs cancer brings.

Cancer survivor Nicky Drummond, from Wetton, near Ashbourne, then gave a moving and highly insightful account of her own recent cancer experience, describing just how “lifesaving” the support she’d received from Macmillan had been, at a time of great need.

Diners then enjoyed a stunning menu of dishes crafted with locally sourced produce including Peakland White Panna Cotta and Derbyshire Pork Belly slow cooked in Thyme and orange.

A magnum of champagne, rustic hydrangea arrangement and limited edition print by local artist Lynne Wilkinson were amongst many fabulous raffle prizes generously donated by local businesses and craftspeople.

Amy Wilkinson, Fischer’s marketing manager, who organised the event said, “We were delighted to support Macmillan, especially when we found out that they aren’t just a national charity and have a strong presence in Derbyshire. Having learned much more about all the ways they help people and how it improves lives, we have every confidence that the money we raised will be put to very good use”.

Tracy Townend, thanked Fischer’s and guests for their support saying, “98% of our funding to provide our services comes from donations and fundraising. Our aim and huge challenge, as the numbers of people living with cancer rises, is to reach everyone affected, not 3 in 4 as we do at the moment. Only with support like yours will this vital aim become a reality.”

A special thanks to local suppliers for wonderful raffle prizes including a hydrangea arrangement from Black Eyed Susan of Chesterfield, Temple Spa gift bag from Judy Bull, magnum of Taittinger champagne from Matthew Clark, £25 gift voucher and goody bag from Izzi Clothing of Baslow, Toni & Guy Colour, Cut & Blow Dry voucher from Lawerence Wragg, Abbeydale Golf Day for 4, umbrellas and gift bag from Investec Wealth & Investment, Stoneware Fruit Bowl handmade on a wheel and glazed in a gas fired kiln at Baslow Pottery and Limited Edition Giclée Print by Lynne Wilkinson Entitled “Looking Yonder”.
