at Baslow Hall with Dr. Patrick Harding – and a special Lunch on Wednesday 15th October
A wonderful opportunity for guests to sample the delights our chefs have available in the grounds at Baslow Hall during Autumn
Dr Patrick Harding, (author of eight books including four about mushrooms) has previously led very enjoyable wild food days at Baslow Hall. Autumn is a good time for finding food from the countryside to augment the dinner table. From picking late bilberries, making sloe gin and gathering nuts to the main season for collecting and eating wild fungi; October is a great month.
After a welcoming coffee, Patrick will show slides and explain how to accurately identify a range of edible fungi that can be found in the Peak District. There will be a display of books about edible fungi and other wild foods. He will also explain how to preserve fungi by drying and pickling as well as how best to cook the different species. There will then be a forage round the wonderful grounds at Fischer’s to see what edibles turn up. Please see a review from a previous event in Westside Magazine - click here.
This will be followed by a special 3-course lunch which will feature fruits from the countryside including a range of edible mushrooms.
Dr. Patrick Harding is a freelance broadcaster, author and adult teacher offering a number of illustrated talks suitable for a wide range of societies. Alongside his 8 books, Patrick has made several media appearances include ‘The Flying Gardener’, ‘Castle in the Country’ (three series), ‘Richard and Judy’, ‘BBC Breakfast’, ‘The Natural History of Christmas’, ‘Britain’s Best Wildlife: Nature’s Top 40′, Radio 4 ‘Up Country’ and Radio 2 Chris Evans.
