Brock & Morten
Brock & Morten began life in January 2013, the brainchild of Ben Furness and Kate Brocklehurst. Ben & Kate both grew up in the heart of Derbyshire on their family farms and between them have a wealth of knowledge about the food and farming industry. They are both passionate about supporting British farming and creating a product that has low food miles and is traceable from field to fork.
Brock & Morten’s multi awarding winning oil is low in saturated fat and packed full of Omegas 3, 6 & 9 and Vitamin E. It is produced in small batches using traditional methods with no additives, but with a great amount of passion and care.
Rapeseed oils are flavourful and offer culinary versatility without compromising nutrition, and Ben and Kate have broadened the Brock & Morten range, with now includes six delicious flavours and mayonnaises, all using premium ingredients.
The Brocklehurst family have been farming in the Derbyshire Dales for over 150 years. Their farm is about 700 acres, all to be found in and around charming Ashford in the Water, a picturesque village only 4 miles from Baslow. It’s a mixed beef and arable farm, and the oil seed rape is grown by Kate’s father and brother as a break crop each year.
In autumn, they plant the highest seed quality, early enough to germinate before the very cold winters which we normally experience in the Peak District. The rape comes in to flower the following May/June, with sweet smelling, bright yellow fields which can be seen for miles around. After the flower has died off and the seed pod has hardened it is then time for combining. The combine harvester separates the tiny black seeds which are then dried and stored ready for the pressing. After the pressing process the by-product or husk is fed back to the farm’s cattle so there is absolutely no wastage.
